The Fall Dance had great dancing, good food, convivial friends, as well as old and new faces. Dan Smith made the falling leaves posters, and Tomas Todd did the cut paper of leaves, all seasonal and attractive. Watch a five-minute video about the dance:

WSD Blue Class Squares Up

Western Star Dancers host the first of two Free Intro Nights for new dancers interested in joining the Blue Mainstream Class of 2011. Friends, family, colleagues, comrades, partners, and passers-by are all encouraged to give modern Western square dance a try. The free dancing is at the Harvey Milk Rec Center (50 Scott Street) from 7-9 PM with Rich Reel calling.

Sunday, October 3 is the Castro Street Fair. WSD will have a booth at 18th and Hartford with dancing at least hourly, on the hour. Dancers are encouraged to stop by the booth for dancing, catching-up, and convincing people that they should square dance.

WSD Green Plus Graduation

Western Star Dancers completed the Green Plus program, teaching the last four calls in the final session. All the students demonstrated their competence, and in some cases their mastery of the complete Plus agenda.

Western Star Dancers held their annual Membership Meeting on Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Administrator Russ King spoke on the need to recruit for the new Mainstream class beginning in October. Steve Scott addressed the question of elections and serving on the Board of Directors.

An entertaining video of Circulate The Golden Gate is finally completed. Critics have called it “…entertaining…” and “…amusing…” and “…the greatest film of the past fifty years.” (I just made up that last part.)

Save the Date–Interclub Holiday Social

John Kenny has just received confirmation on the venue, and can now announce that the Fifth Annual Inter-Club Holiday Social square dance will be held from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, December 27, 2010.

As last year, the venue is Forest Hill Christian Church, 250 Laguna Honda Boulevard, San Francisco. The dance will be in the church hall. There is ample free parking. The venue is a 5-minute walk from the Forest Hill MUNI Metro station, and is served by various MUNI bus lines.

More details to follow, but once again, the San Francisco Bay Area’s 7 primarily gay-and-lesbian, International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs member clubs will come together on December, 27, 2008, from 7:00 to 9:30 for the Fifth Annual Inter-Club Holiday Social Dance.

Of course, everyone is welcome! Singles, Couples, Straight, Gay, class members, Plus dancers, Advanced dancers, Challenge dancers. There is, of course, never a dress code, and traditional attire is always welcome.

As in past years, the dance will be called by many of the San Francisco Bay-Area’s finest callers, members of the Gay Caller Association, in appreciation of the clubs for which they call. As always, the donation will be Pay What You Can, and of course, all money collected will go to All Join Hands foundation to support Gay Caller Association activities, in the name of the 7 Bay Area IAGSDC-member clubs.

FABULOUS Circulate the Golden Gate!

Blustery, but otherwise perfect weather shone on Western Star Dancers and their friends as their square danced around the bay Saturday. Those who missed the start at Marina Green (SF’s first airport, by the by), jsquared up at the Wave Organ.

Paul then led a caravan through the Presidio to Immigrant Point Overlook with lovely views of Point Bonita and the Pacific Ocean. Lunch was a picnic on the grass at China Beach. Our caller Rich Reel called an a capella tip before we strained out limits in climbing the 101 steps to the road uphill to where the cars were parked.

After recovering, we headed to Eagles Point Overlook, downhill from the Palace of the Legion of Honor. We attracted a small crowd, and found a couple brave souls to actually join in a tip.

The gorgeous afternoon culminated at the Sutro Baths Overlook, with more sensational views and an even larger audience.
